Another TRIPLE SLAM!

Mon, 12/13/2010 - 2:15am |  darrylq

Well i know you're gonna find this hard to believe, but this year i done went and done what few hunters before me have EVER done.......but before i tell you what i done went and done, let me explain a few things about my huntin' ethics, foresight and my uncanny "6th Sense", something I like to call "Instinct"

Now I strongly believe in what we here at Little River Outdoors call in the venacular "fair chase" and "deer management."

By "fair chase" i mean use all the tools at your disposal (legally of course) including guns, compound bows, crossbows, dynamite, Scud missiles, and so forth.By good "deer management" i mean the ability and the where with all to  manage to kill every deer you possibly can as long as its big enough to eat and within the legal bag limit.

Now i know a lot of deer hunters fall victim to the "magazine cover induced" craze to hunt only BIG horns and proudly measure their huntin' prowess bythe number of deer they "passed up" or"let walk". But I tell you friends that just seems un-natural to me for a coupla reasons.

First of all you sure enough cant eat the tender loins off of a deer you "let walk".  Second, those BIG horns dont taste near as good as  tender loin no matter how you fix em. But last of all (and this is where my foresight and uncanny "6 th Sense" come into play)  it dont take no real marksman  to knock down a big ole monster buck with a kill zone the size of a John Deere tractor tire!  But put a nice tender yearling with a kill zone the size of a tennis ball in front of these same guys and THAT my friends seperates the men from the boys when it comes to shootin'.

And thats why i decided that this year i was gonna seek out the hardest of all North American big game to kill, the Button Buck! Let all the rest of the pack wing away at those barn door sized bruisers but give me the challenge of seeking and slaying the elusive Button Buck. And i dare say most of these other guys would have trouble FINDIN' a Button Buck, much less being able to make a killin' shot on one!

But , and I dont mean to brag, my quest paid off this year with not one but THREE beautiful Button Bucks, all taken with a cross bow! Yes, the much coveted "Button Buck Triple Slam" an achievement seldom sought and seldom achieved! I'll let the photos speak for themselves but I tell you theres no greater sense of accomplishment that can be gained in the woods and just like the embarrassed hunters who accidently occasionally manage to kill a Button Buck say: "That there s gonna be some GOOOOD eatin!

...........(and just take a look at how small that kill zone is will ya)..............
